John Deere Green

On a warm spring day
They rode, Logan Baugh and Gracie
On tractors 2 feet high
And the whole town said the fools should have bought red
But it looked good to Logan

Thought perhaps this trial of patience could pass me by, wrong.

I knew that someday this would happen. It never came with Savannah. Alyssa never attempted the task. I really thought I was good at laying down the law in a way that my kids could understand. “What do we cut?” “PAPER” “What paper do we cut?” “WHAT MOMMY GIVES US.” They all know the rules. We go over them every time the scissors leave the drawer. So, where did I go wrong?
I looked in on my two angelic babies playing in the family room. I thought to myself, “They are so cute. Rarely do they play so nicely together. I’m going to sweep this floor. Mother of the year trophy here I come.” In runs Emma Grace. “Mommy, Lo Lo’s cutting his hair!” Out of my hand flies the broom, out of the room flies me. Sure enough, there sits my “angelic” baby boy cutting his hair at the scalp. But wait, where did all this long beautiful hair come from?!? GRACIE. Oh, sure. While tattling on her brother, she forgot to mention that she too had done a number on her hair. It was all I could do not to freak out. I loaded all four of the kids up in the van and we headed to “pigtails & crew cuts”. It’s a good thing my kids are cute. It’s also a good thing that kids cutting their own hair isn’t unheard of. The lady that fixed Logan’s hair had already “fixed” three other heads that day!

This picture doesn't even do justice to the number she did on her hair. She did whack off the side, but there ore chunks taken randomly from the middle and the other side as well.

It's hard to stay mad at a little guy who looks at ya with thoses eyes.

OH, NO!!!

Still Handsome

Still angelic, sort of.

Welcome to "The Baugh Field"

We decided that since the babies are still babies that it was not time to put the pool in the back yard. I kept having nightmares that convinced me that we REALLY needed to wait a couple of years. I kind of feel bad for Savannah and Alyssa because they are at the perfect age to have a pool in the yard. But, welcome to family life.
So, we decided to finish the yard without the pool. It was time to put in a garden, plant some trees, and sod the field.
The backyard will now be known as “The Baugh Field”.
Logan was in little boy heaven watching the workers in the back. He stayed on the deck for hours mesmerized by the tractors and diggers and tools.
It is a peaceful place to hangout and enjoy being a family.

Blue Man Group

When Mike bought the fox's musical season for the girls and I the only stipulation was that he wanted to take them to see The Blue Man Group. Unfortunately for him, he was sick as a dog that day. So, Alyssa and I went to see the show. I can't remember why Savannah didn't come. It was unlike anything I had ever seen. It was like an alien visitation/rock concert/art show. It was fun/weird/entertaining. Alyssa's favorite part was when they went over the rules of a good dance party. Shaking your booty was one of the rules. The whole audience was invited to stand up and shake their booty. We danced to a song that named every possible named for your rear end.

5th Grade Graduation

Susan Headley was Savannah’s 5th grade teacher. She was a wonderful woman. She loved Savannah like her own daughter. When Savannah had her orthodontia started Mrs. Headley took special care of her. She offered to let her eat in a different room so that she could take her time and not have to worry about the other kids. Mrs. Headley asked us to make a copy of Savannah’s gym meets so that she could watch them over and over at home. She taught Savannah about patriotism and what it means to be an American. She taught her that to have an extensive vocabulary is a sign of intelligence. Mrs. Headley was a teacher & a friend to my Savannah Mae. Mrs. Headley passed away December 22, 2010. It was such an honor for Savannah & Alyssa to be asked to sing at her memorial service. They sang “For Good” from the musical Wicked. They sang beautifully. I was very proud of them and I know that Susan was, too.

We will always remember Ms. Headley as a favorite and most beloved teacher and friend. We know and have faith that we will get to study at her side again in the next life.

We love you Ms. Headley.

Atlanta Temple Celebration

As part of my stake calling, Cultural Arts specialist, I get to be REALLY involved with the Youth Cultural Celebration. In response to a request from President Monson, the stakes that feed into the Atlanta temple are going to put on a celebration of music and dance on the stage at the Atlanta Civic Center.
It’s been really interesting and a huge learning experience to try and put on such a huge production. I’m just responsible for the Lilburn Stake. We are Dancing the “76 trombones”, “Country Swing”, & “Hills & Hallows”. My job was to make sure that all the kids knew their dance, knew where to stand, had the right outfit, and that they were where they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be there.
It really has been neat to see how fast a huge production can be put together if everyone pitches in. The kids had fun and their parents were running around crazy. I think in the end, testimonies were strengthened and these youth felt like a real part of the rededication of the temple. They are starting to see what a huge deal and what a blessing it is to have a temple so close.
The production came off without a hitch. Our kids did great. The 76 trombones costume switch was REALLY impressive. Everyone wants to learn the country swing. Hills & Hallows was my favorite.
Just a back story: when they were assigning the dances for each stake the bulk of our stake was not assigned to a dance. Everyone was freaking out. We were supposed to start learning the dance that we were not assigned in just a few days. During this time I was in close contact with Brother and Sister Alba, the couple whos calling it was to pull the whole thing off. During one of our conversations I mentioned that I had noticed a dance on the website that was not assigned to anyone, yet. It was the Hill & Hallows dance and I loved it the first time I watched it. Sister Alba started to tell me that she didn’t know who was going to do that dance. That it was really choreographed for a group of young girls. It tells the story of girls dancing in the meadow after a days work. She really wanted a group of beehives to do it, but she thought it may have to be cut. “OOOH, did I mention that I am the beehive advisor in my ward? Did I also mention that I am a dance teacher?” they were so excited and so was I. My daughter, my beehives, and the Dacula ward beehives got to dance the sweetest dance in the celebration. I was so proud of them. They looked so cute in their costumes. The dance itself was not that difficult, but because there were only 26 of them they had lots of formation changes. I have a very special girl in my beehive class that needed a very special partner. After much prayer and pondering the answer came. I knew that if she could do the dance that I wanted her to be a part of it. She really needed to feel like a part of our group. Chloe McWilliams, a Laurel in our ward and the young woman that helped me teach the beeves their dance, agreed to come home early from a dance convention to dance with her. What a great experience for both of them. What a superb example she is to the beehives and all of our young woman and to me. I was really impressed with her and the love that she showed
I learned a lot during this assignment. I’ve learned what kind of leader I want to be. I’ve learned what kind of follower I want to be. I’ve learned that sometimes you have to be the leader and the follower at the same time. I’ve learned that kids just want to have fun. If you want to keep their attention then you had better make it fun or you’ve already lost them. I’ve learned how many e-mails my box can hold. I’ve learned that I have a hard time accepting praise. I’ve had my testimony of our living prohet strengthened. He spoke with Savannah before the show!!! He asked her if she thought his tie was appropriate for the occasion. She said he was funny and that when he left she had to fan her eyes so that she wouldn’t cry. I’m so grateful that my daughter had that experience.

Mike's Birthday/Man I'm behind!

Mike turned 38 this year! He didn’t want a party. He never does. It was a hard day for me to make special, because it was a Thursday. TaVaci. So, I gave him a package full of presents in the morning. One for every hour. He wasn’t really good at opening them exactly on time, but whatever. Basically, the main gift was new basketball shoes.
Patrick Andrade baked him a cake and brought it over after TaVaci. It was very sweet. Patrick made and decorated the cake himself.

Snow from Heaven, Not Hoses!

Savannah and Alyssa have different spring breaks. It is kind of a bummer that we are just going to have to learn to deal with, because the same year Alyssa goes to Athens Academy Emma Grace starts Kindergarten at Harbins. So, spring break is going to be hard for the next 8 years.

This year we decided to pull Alyssa out of school for a couple days and take the family out to Utah to ski. Alyssa was only supposed to miss 2 days of school because we planned it over some built in snow days. Unfortunately for us, they had to use those days to actually make up for snow days. Bummer, for reals, because now I’m getting all kinds of hate mail from the Gwinnett County schools system because my A-student has missed too many unexcused days of school.

That drama aside, we had a great time. Savannah and Alyssa were excited and nervous to learn to ski. I was excited and nervous myself. I hadn’t been skiing in 16 years. It was SO much fun. I remembered how much I really LOVE to ski. I think we are going to have to make it an annual trip. The girls were awesome. They took a 2 hour lesson after which they were good to go. I thought they would be nervous about getting on and off the lift. Um, no. Neither one of them even wanted to ride with me! My little brother Matt’s in-law’s own the resort. So, he hooked us up with lessons and rentals and arranged for the whole family to be there. It was so great to be skiing the most beautiful snow on earth with my brothers and Dad and lots of cousins.

I got to hang out with my Mom and Sisters and go to lunch with my two besties. My babies did great on the plane. I just have to say, my husband is a rock star. Emma Grace and Logan don’t ever want me on the plane. It’s all Daddy. He handles them very well.
