We are so proud of Alyssa.  She has really been trying extra hard to get good grades and be an example to everyone around her.  It was exciting for her to be recognized for her hard work.

Bush Cut- Feb. 2012

Last year about this time Emma Grace and Logan got themselves in BIG trouble by cutting their own hair.  This year they made a much better choice by volunteering to cut the bushes "hair".  They did a pretty great job.

Aladin Jr. Starring Savannah Baugh- Feb. 2012

Savannah had the oportunity this year to participate in the middle school play.  She was super excited when she learned that they were going to perform Disney's Aladin.  She really hoped to be able to play Jasmin.  She prepared well for her try-out.  She was all set to sing "Popular" from Wicked.  We even had her work with a friend that is a drama teacher at Grayson High School to help her with her try-out.

The night after the first try-out she was super excited.  She sang her song and was asked to sing another.  She was then asked to sing a third time using actions.  She thought she had a good shot at landing the Jasmin part.

The night after the second try-out however was a different story.  They had her read for Jasmin along with two other girls.  One of the things I love about Savannah is that she can recognize talent in others.  She openly admitted that the other girls were great and one of them was an 8th grader.  She knew that she was not going to get the part of Jasmin.  What she was frusterated about was that they didn't have her read any other part.  She thought she was going to get cut all together!

Emotions were mixed as she read the cast list.  The part she was to play was the...MAGIC CARPET!  I was so excited because I knew that she could do a fantastic job in the part.  She was sad because she didn't get to say anything.  It wasn't long before she realized that while the carpet doesn't speak audibly, she says an awful lot with her body language.

It turned out to be a fantastic experience.  She loved everything about it.  I got to design and make her costume, which was an adventure.  I also got to sew the genie's pants.  Fun.

The whole production was outstanding.  Savannah was very lucky that she had lots of people come to watch her performance.  Her Beehive class came.  And Granny and Aunt Becca came from Utah.

Happy 39th Mike- February 2012

I can’t believe how much I love this man, and I can’t believe that he’s 39!  From the pictures you can tell where is focus is…right where is should be.  Happy birthday to the greatest Daddy ever.

Emma Grace and Logan Got Mad Skills- January 2012

Sometimes I just have to sit back and giggle at my babies.  When they dance it’s a combo of spinjitzu, ballet, gymnastics, & football.  Roll them all together and you get super funny.

Jay and Kathy Struggle- January 2012

Jay and Kathy have both been struggling with their health. Jay has been having some pretty serious indigestion issues (heart burn pain that puts him on the ground), and Kathy was diagnosed with uterine cancer. Because Jay was so worried about Kathy he refused to take any action to figure out what was going on with him, well that’s not fair, he did have a few tests run, but as her surgery drew near he put the brakes on. Kathy went to a group in Salt Lake that specializes in women’s cancer. They scheduled a hysterectomy. Before they took Kathy in to surgery, Jay got a call from his doctor. The doctor told him to get to an emergency room ASAP. Jay was told that he has acute pancreatitus! Jay then proceeded to tell his doctor that he couldn’t go to the emergency room because his wife was having surgery to get rid of cancer! They agreed that he should go on a liquid only diet and stay at the hospital and if anything painful happened to go to the emergency room. The surgery went very well and they felt like the cancer was contained inside the uterus. Which is a blessing, because the type of cancer she has is an aggressive cancer. She had a hard time coming out of anesthesia because she is super sensitive to medicines. The second night after her surgery Jay had a really bad attack. He was laying on the floor of her hospital room in terrible pain. Nannette decided that she would take care of it once and for all. She went out and rounded up a wheel chair and a couple of sturdy nurses. They wheeled be to the emergency room. He was scheduled for surgery the next day. They wanted to do the surgery the same day but his insides were so inflamed that they were afraid they wouldn’t be able to see what they were looking for. Mike flew out to Utah that night and was there when they finally took Jay into surgery. At that same moment Kathy was on her way back to Smithfield with Noelle.


Long story short. They are both recovering nicely. What a drama! We felt so helpless being so far away. I was glad that Mike went out to help. As I look back on it I can see the miracles that occurred. Jay could have had a ruptured pancreas, which would have been HORRIBLE. His insides would have been covered in bile. DANGEROUS BUSINESS. Kathy’s cancer could have been found outside the uteris. Jay could have been anywhere other than the hospital when he had his attack.

Tomorrow, You're only a day away! -January 2012

Because one of the shows we bought was inappropriate for kids and because we were out of town for Fiddler on the Roof, we had 6 extra tickets to Annie. So, what a fun time we had with the Turners and the Andrades. We all met for lunch and then headed down to the Fox. The show was great. The little girl that played Annie was incredible. Nobody can hold a candle to Carroll Burnett, but they gave it a good shot.

It was a fun afternoon.

My Sunbeam! -January 2012

Our future is so bright, we gotta wear shades! I was so sad to be released from Young Women's. But, my new adventure is so fun. Sunbeams is a happy place to be.
Logan is so happy that I will not be leaving him anywhere by himself. I don't think he ever attended nursery by himself EVER! It took him a few weeks to believe me, that I wasn't going anywhere. He has now settled down and enjoys primary. He even sings, loud.
Each week in primary the Presidency does a "spotlight kid". Every child filled out a questionaire. Each week they choose a child to highlight. Last week the child liked pink, purple, ponies and princesses. All of the kids thought they new who it was. Sister McWilliams called on Emma Grace to guess. "It's Logan!" She said with enthusiasm. "Logan are your favorite colors pink and purple?" "Actually, No! I like Blue and I like Green too." I was impressed that he wasn't nervous to speak up and say what he had to say.
I think it's going to be a good year.
