I knew that someday this would happen. It never came with Savannah. Alyssa never attempted the task. I really thought I was good at laying down the law in a way that my kids could understand. “What do we cut?” “PAPER” “What paper do we cut?” “WHAT MOMMY GIVES US.” They all know the rules. We go over them every time the scissors leave the drawer. So, where did I go wrong?
I looked in on my two angelic babies playing in the family room. I thought to myself, “They are so cute. Rarely do they play so nicely together. I’m going to sweep this floor. Mother of the year trophy here I come.” In runs Emma Grace. “Mommy, Lo Lo’s cutting his hair!” Out of my hand flies the broom, out of the room flies me. Sure enough, there sits my “angelic” baby boy cutting his hair at the scalp. But wait, where did all this long beautiful hair come from?!? GRACIE. Oh, sure. While tattling on her brother, she forgot to mention that she too had done a number on her hair. It was all I could do not to freak out. I loaded all four of the kids up in the van and we headed to “pigtails & crew cuts”. It’s a good thing my kids are cute. It’s also a good thing that kids cutting their own hair isn’t unheard of. The lady that fixed Logan’s hair had already “fixed” three other heads that day!
